When I first signed up for the business accelerator program, I didn’t make the cut. I wasn’t discouraged, though. Shortly after, Cassandra sent me the link for the PROP Study Sessions — and this time, my input made the cut. That experience motivated me to stay connected and always check my email, because being part of the RPOP family has meant the world to me. Through RPOP, I’ve had the opportunity to learn more about the Russell neighborhood, CLT’s, co-ops, and community investment.
It has given me a new perspective on what it means to be connected to the Russell community.I am forever grateful for RPOP and for the opportunity to be part of making history, creating generational wealth, and helping open doors for the people who will come after me.

My journey to RPOP began through community involvement and living in the neighboring Shawnee community. As a Shawnee resident, I participated in a program that provided funding to the Shawnee Neighborhood Association, which deepened my understanding of the importance of resident involvement.
Through RPOP, I’ve learned more about Russell, CLT’s, co-ops, and community investment. I’m grateful to be part of the RPOP family and to support the work whenever I’m asked.

Seeking working capital, I decided to enroll in the cohort. My journey to RPOP also grew out of my community involvement and living in the neighboring Shawnee community.

The members of the RPOP team have always been welcoming and easy to work with. They have seen Play Cousins Collective as an asset to Russell residents. Through our partnership, we helped distribute wellness kits, supported neighborhood outreach, and connected families with resources.
The experience helped us grow as leaders and advocates. RPOP’s dedication to trust, resident voice, and the history of Russell has made our collaboration feel like family.

From August to December 2023, I taught a design studio that supported the creation of RPOP’s Community Land Trust. It was a valuable teaching opportunity for University of Kentucky Architecture students, many of whom found the experience formative.
Our work provided study materials and maps to support decisions about selecting Land Bank parcels for the Community Land Trust. I look forward to future collaborations.

I joined RPOP in August 2021 because I wanted to do more community-based work. Through September 2022, I helped build programs that focused on Russell residents, including Homecoming weekend, canvassing, and a small business accelerator serving entrepreneurs with connections to the neighborhood.
The experience strengthened my skills in event planning, strategic planning, fundraising, and community engagement. I’ve carried those lessons into my graduate studies and my work with a national nonprofit.
